If a consummate history exists revealing the epic battle between Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, director Bob Clampett has encapsulated it brilliantly in the 1944 classic “The Old Grey Hare.” Heralded as one of the greatest Bugs Bunny cartoons ever produced, Clampett sets off to give Bugs and Elmer proportion other than the typical befuddled hunter vs. the wily rabbit. This short initially shows each character as old and only after a fatal shot “tilts” Bugs to his pending death, do we see the rabbit and hunter reminisce about the day they met as babies. Whether genetic ilk or a director’s keen vision into both characters’ past and future, one thing is nonetheless true: neither Bugs nor Elmer have changed a bit. - Clampett Studios
