Bob Clampett (1913–1984) was a trailblazer in American animation, known for shaping the golden age of Warner Bros. cartoons. As a teen, he designed the first Mickey Mouse doll for Walt Disney, then began animating for Merrie Melodies. In 1935, Clampett created Porky Pig and helped develop Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny alongside Tex Avery—ushering in the irreverent, high-energy style now synonymous with Looney Tunes.
Promoted to director in 1937, Clampett helmed iconic cartoons like Porky in Wackyland, The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, and Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs. He also introduced beloved characters like Tweety and Beaky Buzzard.
After leaving Warner Bros. in 1946, Clampett found success in television with Time for Beany, a puppet show that won three Emmy Awards. He later brought Beany and Cecil to life as a hit animated series on ABC.
Clampett believed animation was the ultimate creative medium, allowing artists to build entire worlds from imagination—frame by frame.
