DISNEY THE ART OF MICHELLE ST. LAURENT - Born and raised in New Jersey as the oldest of four children in a large Italian family, Michelle St. Laurent's artistic journey began early. Inspired by the masterpieces of Italian Renaissance painters like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, Michelle started painting at just six years old. She eagerly asked for new paint sets and sketchbooks every birthday, fostering a lifelong passion for art. Michelle's talent was evident in first grade when she entered a poster contest, painting a vibrant Disney character parade. The judges disqualified her, believing such a work could be done with tracing. That disappointment only ignited her determination to become an artist.
At 16, when her family moved to Florida, Michelle set her sights on becoming a Disney Artist. She worked in the Magic Kingdom during high school and later attended the Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, majoring in Advertising and Design. While in college, Michelle created artwork for nightclubs and radio stations, continuing to hone her skills. She later worked as a scenic artist for theme parks, painting murals, show sets, and props, before moving into roles as a Graphic Designer for commercial printers and a children's book publisher.
Michelle's career path led her to the Disney Design Group, where she spent ten years creating artwork for Disney Theme Park Merchandise. During this time, she trained with Disney legend Ralph Kent. She worked for another five years with Disney's Park Events team as an Art Director, designing large-scale sets and props for significant park parties, festivals, and press events.
In 1998 Michelle began painting for the Disney Galleries, officially becoming a Disney Artist. Over the past two decades, her artistic talents have continued to evolve. "Through my paintings, I aspire to recreate the classic Disney magic, which allows each of us to be a kid again." Her art reflects her passion for Disney and her love for family, which fuels her passion for life.
