Sophie Ellen - Despite growing up in a small country village in England, Disney has been a fundamental part of Sophie’s life for as long as she can remember. Living with autism, Sophie faced significant challenges throughout her school years, including bullying and social difficulties that deeply affected her self-confidence and sense of belonging. Art, however, was the one place where she felt she could truly excel.

“I may have trouble processing spoken language, but with a pencil in my hand, I can say anything.”

Disney became Sophie’s safe place—a source of comfort, escapism, and predictability in a world that often felt overwhelming. Drawing Disney characters allowed her to express herself in ways that felt understood and accepted. It was during these moments of creation that the background noise of stress and anxiety would fade away.

Sophie’s artwork offers a unique window into how she sees the world. “I see parts of things—the detail—before I see the whole object,” she explains. “For example, I might see tiny blob shapes, then thin pale lines connecting them, before realizing I’m looking at a leaf. When I draw, it works the same way. I begin with detail and texture, and gradually the full image emerges.”

At the age of six, a visit to a Disney Gallery at Walt Disney World sparked something profound. From that moment on, Sophie set her heart on becoming a Disney artist. Unable to attend art school, she taught herself by studying the works and teachings of Disney’s legendary animators, The Nine Old Men. Through dedicated practice with Learn to Draw Disney books, she steadily developed her own distinctive artistic style.

Sophie delights in bringing Disney characters to life through highly detailed, realistic textures and a masterful use of depth. By carefully adding shadow and dimension, she creates a three-dimensional effect that makes the characters feel as though they are stepping off the page—beautifully blurring the line between their world and ours.

Today, Sophie is deeply honored to share her view of the world through her Disney artwork. Her greatest hope is to inspire anyone who has ever felt they were “not good enough” to keep believing, to keep creating, and to keep swimming—because dreams truly do come true.
